Jeera Pilau Rice

Jeera pilau rice is a simple variation on plain boiled rice made with cumin seeds. Jeera rice can be prepared in two ways: the water absorption method or the draining method where all starch is drained thereby being healthier, so we will go for the draning method.

Jeera pilau rice is a simple variation on plain boiled rice made with cumin seeds. Jeera rice can be prepared in two ways: the water absorption method or the draining method where all starch is drained thereby being healthier, so we will go for the draning method.
Ingredients

1 cup basmati rice
1 tsp salt
2 bayleaves
3-4 peppercorns
1 star anise
1 cinnamon stick
1 tsp cumin seeds / jeera
1 small onion thinly sliced

Instructions

Wash the rice and soak in cold water for half an hour.
Heat the olive oil spread in a saucepan and add all ingredients except the salt.
Fry the onions until they are slightly brown and soft.
Add the rice, salt, 3 cups of water and stir.
Cover the pan of rice with a lid and simmer.
Cook until the rice is done and drain any remaining water.
Garnish with coriander leaves.
Serve hot with a curry of your choice.
