Brown Chickpeas with Tamarind

This great dish of brown chickpeas with tamarind can be eaten as a starter with a dash of lemon and coriander or with boiled basmati rice.
Ingredients
2 tins kala chana / brown chickpeas
1 small onion finely chopped
1 tsp garlic and ginger paste
1 tsp coarse black pepper
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp chilli powder
1/2 tsp turmeric
1 tbsp coriander / cumin powder (dhania jeera powder)
handful of chopped coriander to garnish
1 medium sized potato, peeled and chopped
1/3 tin liquidised chopped or plum tomato tin
Instructions
Drain the chickpeas
Heat the oil in a pan and add salt, pepper, onion, garlic and ginger paste until onion golden brown
Add the remainder of the dry spices and dry roast for one minute
Add the tomato puree and cook for a few a couple of minutes
Add the chickpeas and 1/2 cup of water and simmer for 10 minutes
Add the potatoes and simmer until potatoes are cooked
Add more water if needed
Garnish with coriander and serve with tamarind sauce as a started / dish or with basmati rice as a main dish
