This traditional vegetarian dish of aloo matar is made from ingredients we all have at home. To add extra zing, garnish with red chilli, garam masala, coriander and lemon juice.
Ingredients
250g potatoes cut into cubes
150g frozen peas
2 tbsp oil
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp red chilli powder
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp coriander powder
1 tsp cumin powder
1/3 tin tomatoes
chopped coriander for garnish
1/2 tsp mustard seeds (optional)
Instructions
Heat the oil in a pan and add mustard seeds until they pop
Add the other spices and fry for 30 seconds
Add the tomatoes and stir well and cook for 2 minutes
Now add the potatoes and 1/4 cup water
Simmer until potatoes nearly cooked
Add the peas and cook for a further 5 minutes
Add chopped coriander and serve with chappatis or pitta bread
